Kingsdown (Bristol) has completed a £1.4 million cap-ex spend on a Ryobi 928 LED UV offset-litho press, along with additional CtP and digital printing equipment.
Dave Spencer, Managing Director of Kingsdown, said: “The productivity improvements we now get from the LED-UV technology are significant. It eradicates drying and marking issues, smoothing workflow throughout the factory, and gets jobs out of the door much faster – and no spray powder to contend with!
“The SRA1 sheet size makes us significantly more competitive on larger jobs as well. This investment provides us with an additional capacity of up to £4 million going forward.”
The Ryobi 928 press was demonstrated in a live environment in Europe using hand-picked jobs from the customer that could offer a perfecting challenge. “We saw everything we needed to make the decision. Seven jobs, each with a short run of 200 sheets, were produced in a fraction over one hour. The make-ready speed was awesome, and, of course, the sheets were dry to the touch at the delivery end of the machine,” added Mr Spencer.
The company expects to create savings in excess of £200,000 year due to reduced overtime, reduced power consumption, and a negotiated five-year maintenance contract with press supplier Apex Digital Graphics.
“This is about supporting the next stage of our development,” he added. Kingsdown currently employs a team of 54 and enjoys an annual turnover of £6 million.
The RMGT/Ryobi 928P is an eight-colour convertible perfecting press for 8-up A4 format print production. Two LED-UV curing units are incorporated into this configuration – one situated over the perfecting device and the other at the delivery end of the machine, enabling one-pass instant curing perfecting.
